DOMAIN ONE: PLANNING AND PREPARATION

1d Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources

My own website jabernethy.com  has been around for over fifteen years, and I have been collecting useful websites for longer than that. Below you will see a resource page to research sites I use with my students on most of the topics we study in fifth grade. I add to it, subtract from it and change it a little each year, but it is by no means my only resource or the only resource I give my students when working on a project.

Hands down, the best resource a teacher will ever have is another teacher or even just another person who may be in a field we are studying. Edmodo is probably my favorite social media site for finding information and giving information to my students. I join a variety of communities whether they are topic based or subject based. If I am looking for an answer to a question involving health and physical education, if I ask the question on edmodo and direct the question to that community, over one million followers will see my question, and I have a pretty good chance of getting an answer to my question. I can also post a link on edmodo for my students and they can easily go to the site I need them to go to immmediately.

If I have a technology question, for example what app would be best to teach my students how to add and subtract fractions, I could post that question on Twitter, Facebook, and Edmodo, and within minutes I would surely have hundreds of replies. After years of building up a website and a network, I feel equipped to equip my students with the resources they need to learn about the topics they want and need to learn about.
